CFM Examination

CFM® applicants take a competency-based examination that is administered in person or virtually. The exam consists of 180 multiple-choice questions focused on the application of facility management concepts across 11 core competencies.
There is no mandatory coursework requirement to take the CFM® exam. IFMA offers optional preparation resources, including the CFM Exam Workshop and the CFM Knowledge Workshop, to support exam readiness. IFMA strongly recommends that learners who need additional foundational training consider earning the FMP® credential first.
The examination duration is 4 hours and results are reported as pass or fail.
Certification
Candidates who meet IFMA eligibility requirements and successfully pass the examination earn the Certified Facility Manager® (CFM®) credential, an internationally recognized professional designation awarded by IFMA.
